Perfect Men's Sangeet Outfit: Stylish Dress Ideas for the Celebration
The sangeet function is one of the most exciting events in a wedding celebration. It's a night of music, dance, and unforgettable memories, where both families come together to celebrate the couple's union. Whether you're the groom, a groomsman, or a guest, selecting the perfect menâs sangeet outfit is crucial for ensuring you look stylish and feel comfortable as you join in the festivities. In this guide, weâll explore various options for the perfect sangeet dress for men and help you find the best menâs dress for sangeet function.
1. Choosing the Right Menâs Sangeet Outfit
When selecting a menâs outfit for sangeet, itâs important to strike a balance between tradition and style. The sangeet night is often filled with music and dance, so comfort and flexibility should be prioritized while ensuring you look fashionable. Here are some options:
Sherwani: A classic choice for sangeet wear for men is a sherwani. A well-tailored sherwani with intricate embroidery or embellishments adds a royal touch to your look, making it perfect for the groom. Pair it with a churidar or straight-leg trousers to complete the look.
Kurta-Pajama Set: For a more traditional yet comfortable outfit, a kurta pajama set is a great option. The kurta can be embellished with minimal embroidery or kept simple, while the pajamas allow for ease of movementâperfect for a night of dancing. This option works great for the groom or any male guest.
Nehru Jacket with Kurta: The Nehru jacket paired with a kurta is a sleek and modern option for men's sangeet wear. A Nehru jacket adds a formal touch, while the kurta underneath gives you a comfortable yet stylish appearance. This is an ideal choice for the groom, groomsmen, or family members who want a polished look without being too formal.
Jodhpuri Suit: For a more regal look, the Jodhpuri suit is a stylish and sophisticated choice. This traditional outfit, with its high collar and tailored fit, is perfect for the groom or a guest looking to make a statement. Pair it with a matching kurta or a simple shirt underneath.
2. Best Sangeet Function Dress for Men
The sangeet night dress for men should reflect the joyful and festive spirit of the evening. Here are some dress ideas to help you stand out during the sangeet function:
Bright-Colored Kurtas: While traditional sangeet dresses for men can be muted, bright-colored kurtas add a burst of color to the eveningâs festivities. Choose vibrant hues like deep blue, maroon, or rich green. These colors are perfect for creating a lively and celebratory atmosphere during the sangeet function.
Embroidered or Printed Sherwanis: If you want something more opulent, consider an embroidered sherwani with subtle designs. Embellishments such as zari work or mirror work can elevate the look, making it perfect for the groom or those attending the wedding as a guest. Opt for colors like ivory, gold, or royal blue for a majestic appearance.
Contemporary Fusion Outfits: For men looking for a more modern and chic style, a fusion outfit combining traditional and contemporary elements is a great option. You can pair a sangeet dress for men with slim-fit pants or jeans, adding a stylish twist while still honoring tradition.
3. Stylish Sangeet Dress for Groom
The groomâs outfit for the sangeet ceremony is crucial as he is the star of the night. The groom should wear something that reflects both the importance of the occasion and his personal style. Here are a few ideas for a stylish sangeet dress for groom:
Embroidered Sherwani with Matching Churidar: A stylish sangeet dress for groom could include an embroidered sherwani, possibly with a gold or silver design, paired with a churidar for a more traditional look. This timeless outfit will make the groom look elegant and put-together.
Tailored Suit with a Touch of Tradition: For a more contemporary approach, the groom could opt for a tailored suit with traditional embroidery on the collar or sleeves. A well-fitted suit with minimal detailing can offer a stylish, sharp look for the sangeet function dress for men.
Kurta and Nehru Jacket: A stylish sangeet dress for groom could also include a kurta paired with a matching Nehru jacket. This combo blends traditional and modern styles, making it an ideal choice for the groom who wants to stay comfortable and fashionable at the same time.
4. Colors and Fabrics for Sangeet Wear for Men
When choosing sangeet wear for men, color plays a crucial role in determining the overall look. Here are some color and fabric options to consider:
Vibrant Hues: For a lively and joyful event like the sangeet, choose bright colors such as royal blue, emerald, green, deep red, and maroon. These shades complement the festive atmosphere and make you stand out in the crowd.
Pastel Tones: If you prefer something subtle yet elegant, pastel colors such as light peach, mint green, or baby pink work beautifully for a more refined look. These colors are light and perfect for a men's dress for sangeet function thatâs more relaxed and sophisticated.
Rich Fabrics: Silk, brocade, and velvet are luxurious fabrics that will make your menâs sangeet outfit stand out. These fabrics add texture and depth to the outfit, giving it a royal appearance. Silk kurtas for men or velvet sherwanis are great choices for the groom or anyone looking for a lavish look.
5. Accessorizing Your Sangeet Night Dress for Men
To complete your menâs sangeet wear, consider adding the following accessories:
Footwear: Traditional mojari or juttis are the perfect footwear for men's sangeet wear. These shoes complement traditional outfits and provide comfort during dancing and festivities. Alternatively, you can choose sleek leather loafers or sandals for a modern look.
Jewelry: While men's jewelry for sangeet outfits is usually minimal, you can still add a few key pieces, like a stylish watch, cufflinks, or a statement ring. These subtle details can enhance your look without overpowering it.
Scarves or Dupattas: Adding a traditional scarf or dupatta to your sangeet outfit for men can bring an extra layer of elegance and charm to your appearance. Opt for a dupatta with embroidery or embellishments that complement your outfit. The sangeet night dress for men is all about striking a balance between style, comfort, and tradition. Whether you opt for a traditional sherwani, a contemporary kurta with trousers, or a fusion outfit, make sure your menâs sangeet outfit reflects your personality and fits the festive spirit of the celebration. By choosing the right colors, fabrics, and accessories, you'll ensure that you look your best and enjoy every moment of the sangeet function.

Sangeet Night
A Sangeet ceremony is an important part of Indian weddings â itâs like a pre-wedding reception where friends and family ceremonially welcome the couple into their lives and wish them the best for their future. This welcoming celebration often includes lots of dancing and music, religious traditions, ethnic games, ceremonial attires, delicious food, and more! A typical Sangeet ceremony involves music and dancing, typically in the form of a dance-off between the bride and groomâs families. There are also religious rituals such as a havan or puja to bless the couple and their upcoming union, as well as traditional games they can engage in together. The dress code is usually festive â bright colors and traditional sarees or lenghas for women, while men usually wear kurtas or Sherwanis.

Color Confidence: A Guide to Traditional & Modern Menâs Style
Color in menswear is more than just aesthetics; it can influence perception and complement your personality. Letâs explore how color affects your look and guide you towards traditional and modern color matches.
Psychology of Color:
Traditional Masculinity:Â Colors like navy blue, black, and dark grey are often associated with power, authority, and stability. These hues project a sense of seriousness and competence, making them ideal for formal settings or commanding a professional presence.
Modern Expression: Brighter colors like jewel tones (emerald green, burgundy) and pastels (light blue, lavender) can convey confidence, creativity, and individuality. They add a touch of playfulness and personality to your outfit.
Color Matching for Different Looks:
Traditional:
Color Palette:Â Focus on neutral colors like navy blue, charcoal grey, brown, and black. These create a sophisticated and timeless look.
Matching:Â Pair neutral colors with classic patterns like stripes or checks for added visual interest.
Example:Â A well-tailored navy suit with a crisp white shirt and brown leather shoes exudes timeless elegance.
Modern:
Color Palette:Â Explore a wider range of hues like jewel tones, pastels, and even bold pops of color.
Matching:Â Experiment with color combinations. Try a burgundy sweater over a light blue shirt and dark-wash jeans for a modern twist on a classic look.
Example: A pastel pink button-down shirt with dark-wash jeans and brown loafers creates a stylish and modern casual outfit.
Beyond the Basics
Skin Tone:Â Consider your skin tone when choosing colors. Warmer tones complement cooler colors like blue and green, while cooler tones look good with warmer colors like brown and yellow.
Confidence is Key: Regardless of color, confidence is the ultimate accessory. Rock any color with a strong posture and positive attitude.

Indian Hindu weddings are rich in culture, traditions, customs and celebration. Weddings are the celebration of the togetherness of two people and families Every ritual of a Hindu wedding has some hidden meaning behind it. Are you planning to marry Hindu men or women? However, if you are marrying a Hindu partner, you should learn about all theIndian traditions and customs as the people are very serious about their rituals.Â
As India is a diversity-rich country, Hindu wedding traditions and customs vary from one region to another. However, the marriage ceremony is incomplete without following all the rituals. Nowadays, couples are customizing their marriages based on their choices and the below write-up will help you to understand what to keep and what you can eliminate.Â
Hindu Wedding Customs and TraditionsÂ
Sangeet â The Ultimate Music festÂ
The desi musical night of big fat Indian weddings and sangeet is a time when two families celebrate each otherâs presence in their life.Â
Sangeet is the most musical and colourful Indian tradition and custom of the Hindu marriage ceremony. The whole family gathers together to cherish the togetherness of the bride and groom. Both bride and groom side host either an individual sangeet night or a common one.Â
Besides this, it is a musical and dance battle among both families and lit up the evening with outstanding performances. Family members convey their feelings towards the bride and groom with melodious songs.Â
Henna on Brideâs Hand and FeetÂ
The Mehendi ceremony is one of the most auspicious Hindu wedding customs, usually the brideâs side hosts. This event usually takes a day before the wedding. The henna design focuses on the events related to marriage, bride and groom. Also, there is the name of the groom hidden in the henna artwork on the brideâs hand. Later the groom finds out his name which reflects his patience towards the bride and his relationship with the bride.Â
There are numerous beliefs associated with the Mehendi ceremony that âthe darker the henna the more the mother-in-law will love her daughter-in-lawâ. The second one is that the darker the henna the stronger the marriage of the couple.Â
Beliefs related to Red ColourÂ
You will never see aHindu bride in a white colour dress. According to Hindu, traditions red is a very auspicious colour as it symbolises the Goddess Durga. Also, Maa Durag signifies new beginnings and feminine strength. Usually, you will find the bride wearing a vibrant red colour lehenga or embroidered saree.Â
Nowadays, modern brides choose shades of orange, pink, yellow, pastels and bold blues with embroidery and zari work.Â
Groomâs Arrival at the Wedding VenueÂ
As per Hindu wedding traditions, the brideâs side makes all the arrangements for the wedding ceremony. The groom and his family side come to the wedding venue. The arrival is commonly called vara yatra or baraat and is celebrated with joy.Â
The brideâs family welcomes the groomâs side with a rice toss (akshat), garland and arati. Also, the groomâs mother-in-law put tilak on his forehead.Â
Kanyadaan of the Bride
The bride is led to the ceremony by her brothers, uncles or bridesmaids. In Hindu wedding traditions, the father giving their daughter away to the groom is called Kanyadaan. Grooms canât claim a bride until she is offered.Â
Kanyadaan is one of the most important rituals, where the brideâs father places his daughterâs hand into the soon-to-be son-in-law.Â
Mandap CeremonyÂ
A mandap or wedding altar is a temporary structure for the numerous wedding ceremonies. In the centre, a fire is lit up. Fire is the most sacred element and it is involved in the wedding ceremony as the witness of the togetherness of bride and groom in wedding traditions in India. The couple give offerings to the fire like handful of rice to the fire while the priest chants the mantras.Â
Pheras (Vows)
Saptadi is important in north Indian wedding traditions, where newlywedsâ cloth pieces (bride-dupatta/ groomâs sash) tie together. Moreover, Bride and Groom take 7 pheras (vows) where they promise each other loyalty, harmony, family and martial accountability. Under 7 pheras both bride and groom rotate around the burnt fire â hand in hand.Â
In south India, the couple walks 7 steps together to establish a friendship.Â
Mangalsutra Necklace and Sindoor
The new spouse drapes a necklace of black and gold beads around the brideâs neck. According to Hindu wedding traditions, the Goddess of wealth and fortune lives in the Mangala sutra the auspicious thread. The bride receives blessings for her happy life.
The husband applies red-orange sindoor (vermillion) on the brideâs forehead during the mandap ceremonies. Moreover, it is a sign of marital status. The colour of the sindoor changes from region to region.Â
After the marriage, the wife usually wears the sindoor regularly on their hairline.Â
Exchange of Floral Garlands
Jai mala is a flower garland exchange by bride and groom. According to Hindu wedding traditions, Jai mala symbolises the partners welcoming each other into their respective families. Also, Jai-mala is the beginning of the wedding day rituals.
Wedding Rituals Begin with Ganesha Prayer
Lord Ganesha is the symbol of fortune and obstacle remover, so before the beginning of the Hindu wedding traditions, the couple performs a Ganesh Pooja together. The couple offers salutations to the lord for a happy married life.Â
After the pooja, the priest announces the gotra of both sides to be Weds. Moreover, Hindus cannot marry in the same clan.Â
Rice Shower
Bride and groom shower each other with rice as per wedding traditions in India. In South India, the ceremony is named talambralu where the couple showers each other with a mixture of rice, turmeric, saffron and even pearls.Â
The meaning of the tradition is fertility, prosperity and happiness in the new life of the couple.Â
Ashirwad and Blessings
Last but not least, the newlywed couple receives the blessings of their families after performing all the customs. The couple goes to their elders and touches their feet to take blessings.
The elders of the family wish them luck, give them shagun and bless them for a happy married life.Â

Why should the ladies have all the fun? While ladies, girls, brides-to-be, and bridesmaids enjoy the ever-changing and evolving trends, men's fashion should not fall behind. Keeping in mind our desi gabrus, groomsmen, and stylish hunks, we present some simple ethnic wear for men to pair with the old-school dhotis.
Since dhotis and cowl pants are all the rage, here are some dapper options with bespoke classic traditionalism.
1. Sufi Style Layered Kurta
A Sufi layered kurta will instantly transform you into a desi munda; definitely a norm-defying piece for the handsome men. Paired with ethnic dhotis, the simple kurta set for men can create an edgy look suitable for weddings, sangeet nights, or Mehendi rituals.
2. Drape Kurta
The allure of ethnic kurtas for men is endless, but wearing a drape kurta over cotton vest will highlight your unconventional choice. The kurta with buttons and gathers near the waist will undoubtedly set you apart from the rest of the boys. Choose a kurta that is both unique and traditional to create a fashionable groomsmen.
3. Nehru Jacket Kurta Set
A Nehru kurta jacket for men is a must-have for any man to wear to special occasions. Your entire boy gang will be jealous of your Nehru jacket kurta set paired with a desi dhoti, which will mark your stance at the wedding ceremony and ritual. You can match it with a dhoti in the same colour or a contrasting colour; the choice is yours.
4. Asymmetric Kurta
Asymmetrical hem kurtas are one of the newest groomsmen outfit ideas. At traditional events and family gatherings, a simple kurta with a fancy cut can make a dashing statement. A monotone, traditional, or dark-colored kurta with a high-low cut will look great with an elegant and traditional dhoti.
5. Front-slit Panel Kurta
In a stylish front-slit kurta, groomsmen can dance their hearts out on stage. The kurta panels and tie-dye drape are a lovely modern take on the classic navy-blue kurta set. Put on this stunning ensemble with an equally stunning dhoti to complete the look.
6. Simple Lucknowi Embroidered Kurta
With a classic Lucknowi-thread embroidery kurta, you can easily step into the realm of royalty, whether you're the groom's brother or the dulha's best friend. Yellow would be the ideal colour for the day's mehndi or sangeet evening. For a long time, wearing a Lucknowi kurta with a dhoti has been fashionable.

Gaga Over (S)Udaipur
I'm really at a loss to know how to tell you how amazing our time celebrating Suman and Gagan's wedding has been. We're both really in awe that we have been able to experience such an incredible event with such incredible people!! Having said all that though, our journey to get there was long, expensive and stressful!! After our 9 hour flight with a very fluey Alex, and first night crashing at Aman's flat Mumbai, we wanted to have a chilled day there. We succeeded for the first half of the day! A lie in and then Alex first taste of real Indian food for lunch - everyone's a winner. But then after we'd picked up our rented Indian wedding outfits from Suman's friend Devanshi's lobby, we realised that 3 of them were missing and we couldn't get through to customer service on the phone! So with less than 2 hours until we needed to be at the airport to fly to Udaipur for the wedding the next afternoon, we rushed to the company's store in Mumbai and tried to hurry along the staff as we paid again to replace our missing outfits, but with much more limited choices. However, (as seemed to be a theme throughout our stay), a sense of urgency is really hard to come by in India, so with the hectic traffic when we left, we arrived with only 5 minutes before check in closed so the machine didn't work, but a lady told us we weren't "very late" so it was fine just to join the queue - phew! Then the next drama. We were told at the check in desk that our flight had been moved to 12:15 (it was now about 18:30) and they'd tried to contact us several times with no success to let us know about the change. Our hearts sank as we realised we may have to fly at 05:00 the next morning, but then a miracle; two no shows on the new 19:15 flight meant we squeezed back in in the nick of time! The drama continued however, with a 2 hour delay in taking off (of course!); which meant that by the time we got to our hotel in Udaipur (45 minutes drive from the airport) and the porters took us to the wrong room and then spent 20 minutes trying to find the right one, we were just too exhausted to go and see Su at her hotel, which I was devastated about. Though when I heard the tales of 02:00 party crashing (the whole bridal party had been living off around 2-4 hours sleep a night on the run up to the wedding - I really don't know how they do it!) I was relieved we'd made the choice to get our beauty sleep. In the morning I began to remember what Indian living is really like, and that for a wedding everything is ten times more manic and unpredictable. By the end of the wedding we knew to add at least two hours to any expected timings and that "it isn't an Indian wedding without some chaos". However, when we arrived at the Radisson Blu I instantly knew all the pain had been worth it. It was quite literally a palace and the view out over the lakes was absolutely breathtaking. Also getting to see Su very briefly before the first event, I was so so glad we came. Day one was pre-wedding partying essentially and the first event is called Mehendi and is traditionally for the women, but everyone was there. It was on the rooftop of the hotel and as you arrived there was a bright pink archway (pink was definitely a theme!) with fluorescent coloured origami hanging from it. I GOT HENNA! It was so amazing to watch, the women work so quickly and intricately; I can't stop looking at the artwork on my hands and I'm trying to make it last as long as possible (even washed my hair with bags on my hands yesterday haha). I got our's and Su's hashtags in henna too, one on each arm. This event started proceedings as they meant to go on, consisting of chatting, eating, drinking, taking pictures, goggling at fabulous dresses - The colours! The glamour! - and being gobsmacked by the unbelievable view over the lake as the sun went down. I reconnected with some familiar faces, like Iza, Suman's friend from Hulme days and many many new ones. The second event is called Sangeet and is basically an engagement party and this one was set in the ballroom with huge chandeliers and loud booming Indian music. The white guys were always ready far too early; the rookies in this 2-hours-later-than-we-told-you malarkey. The Sangeet consisted of more of the above, but with the added excitement of some of the younger bridal party performing dances (we nipped up to see some of the rehearsals beforehand in Su's suite and again it was madness - shouting over each other and stopping and starting ha), which I loved! They were just having the best time and they all looked so beautiful and full of life and I particularly loved that the guys were just as passionate and involved as we girls. It also included, bizarrely, the proposal! Everyone crowded round the couple as they exchanged engagement rings and Gagan got down on one knee to the glee of the crowd. I can't believe this was the first time Su had been given, or even seen, the engagement ring! How did she know he was a man of good taste before she agreed to the wedding?! Having said that, the ring was chokka block full of diamonds so it worked out OK for her I guess, and lucky for Suman's dad that she didn't say no at this stage! Then we celebrated the engagement!! The morning of day two (the actual wedding day) was carnage. Everyone had had another really late and heavy night. I was told bridal group were being forced to go to bed around 5am and the first event of the day was due to start at 6am!! Needless to say, it did not, and the morning was a game of guess-when-things-are-happening-and-try-not-to-miss-it! It was frustrating as I could have made it to the first event of the day in the end (Haldi & Chura, where they put turmeric on the bride), but I had no idea what time it was happening. Just as I was going to head to the venue I heard that Suman was already at breakfast covered in turmeric! Anyway, I went down to the spa to have my saree wrapped (what a complicated ordeal!) and then we heard that Gagan was arriving so we raced down to the veranda outside reception. And what a show it was! Gagan was on a bejazzled white horse and wearing a veil made of pearls. His friends and family followed him down the hill accompanied by an amazing team of drummers and subsequent jubilant dancing! The older men in Gagan's family were having an absolute blast and throwing money in the air (a tradition of paying the drummers so they keep playing) and waving money over each other's heads which we saw a few times and must be a way of giving good luck or blessing. It was so vibrant and loud and fun! Then after another panic to get everyone into taxis to the temple (apparently Suman wasn't even 100% ready but her dad was kicking off as they were going to miss their appointment and not be able to actually get married!), we made it and Su's dress was absolutely breathtaking. Red, gold, sparkly and just perfect, she looked amazing. The ceremony was more informal than what we had imagined with people chatting and coming in late, but it was really beautifully done and all Su's girlfriends could come up and sit right next to her which felt like such a privilege. The whole thing was like that actually; Suman's family were so inclusive and wanted us to be up close and personal with everything. We obviously didn't know everything that was going on but the guy running the service sang everything he said (it was really impressive!) and Gagan had to lead Su around the alter 4 times which represented 4 promises they were making to each other. Afterwards Su seemed in a sleepy daze and couldn't believe she was actually married!! I also loved that all the men on Suman's side wore pink turbans (including Alex!). I couldn't help but see the symmetry between that and my dad wearing pink shoes... Same thing right? I saw loads more traditions that afternoon including the grand arrival of the new husband and wife (accompanied by deafening confetti canons!), the families giving each other garlands and gifts and hugging, Suman shaking her long wrist jewellery over all the single ladies and whoever it breaks on will get married next (though she made sure everyone got some ha!), and the super emotional ritual of saying goodbye to her family where she throws petals which her family all catch and then they hug her one by one with a lot of tears (obviously including from me). She is then welcomed in by the groom's family and all the men pretend to push them away together in the car. I think I was the only non-family member there, it was a really moving ceremony. Then a quick nap before the reception!! The reception was super classy, this time out on the veranda with fairy lights and ball gowns. The bride and groom entered between firework canons and again Suman looked like a real life princess. It then seemed like no time at all until we were at the after party in the pool side room complete with pool table and DJ! Lots of pictures, drinks and boy, did we dance! Alex was on fire and everyone was loving it! Top night with top people in an unbelievable location. And we didn't pay for one thing the whole time, madness. The next day we managed to squeeze in a little trip down to the lake with Iza and it was truly breathtaking and the little slice of peacefulness that we were very much in need of after all the madness. Thanks so much for having us Su, it was truly unforgettable and we will be forever grateful that we could be there and experience all that we did!! Now, where were we? Ah yes, Bali...

Best Indian Brother Sister Songs for Brother Wedding
Indian weddings are a grand celebration of color, music, dance, and joy to bless the newly wedded with a lifetime of happiness and prosperity. Have you watched Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, the blockbuster of the â90s? It is a visual treat to take you through the magic of Indian weddings, its music, and dance. Different regions of India follow different customs and traditions for weddings, but everywhere one thing remains common â the colorful exuberance. And, there are songs for each ceremony. The Mehendi ritual, Sangeet, Shagun, or the tearful Vidaai; all are accompanied by melodious songs. Perhaps, the most celebrated among these songs are the musical brother-sister songs for the strong bond and affection they share. Bollywood has paid tribute to this endearing bond by bringing forth several memorable songs for brother wedding.
What is Sangeet in an Indian Wedding?
For Indians, the real party and fun of the wedding begin with Sangeet. This musical night of song and dance for the families to bond together is held two or three days before the wedding. Though Sangeet took birth in the Punjabi weddings it was warmly embraced by the other regions as well. The function is arranged at the brideâs home or separate hall to welcome the groomâs side with song and dance. The songs usually surround the brideâs dreams of her new life or parentâs pain in parting with their daughter. The bride is referred to as banni in the songs and groom as banna. The groomâs side also plays several fast numbers from timeless songs for brother wedding. Sangeet has everything in it. Everyone dances at the Sangeet without inhibitions and takes a chance at displaying their talents. In between, the men have a private time to booze a little. And not to forget the sumptuous and delectable food. Henna is the star of Sangeet along with the music. Ladies enjoy getting the beautiful burgundy brown designs on their hands. Nowadays Sangeet has become a lavish affair with choreographers being hired to teach dance numbers to the performers, DJs being brought in to for cool music or even popular musicians for live performances with catchy songs for brother wedding. What is Jago in Punjabi wedding? Jago is held one or two days before the wedding. Jago means âstaying awakeâ and the relatives of the bride and groom stay awake the whole night for this ritual. Make noise and party as much as you want for that is what Jago night is all about. The maternal relatives of the bride and groom reach the wedding home with song and dance. The maternal aunt will carry a water container having lit candles on her head while others try to shake it with long Jago sticks. The container is passed on to other female relatives as well. Everything is fun in Jago night. The party goes to other houses also where they are warmly welcomed with sweets. Fireworks, song and dance fill the air. A usual song for Jaggo is Guvandio jaag tha ka sutha to invite neighbors to participate in the merry-making. Boliyan and Gidda involving the paternal and maternal sides teasing each other is perhaps the most fun-filled part of Jago. Punjabi wedding ceremony traditions Punjabiâs are emotional, expressive and live life to their fullest. Same are their weddings which are colorful, fun-filled and loud with music and dance. But weddings are not only fun but also in keeping with the traditions. These Punjabi weddings are usually lengthy with numerous pre-wedding rituals, dance, and song of Sangeet, the indulging Mehendi, and Jago. Pre wedding rituals Roka and Thaka â The pre-wedding rituals start with Roka and Thaka. In Roka, the brideâs family will visit the groomâs place with shagun to offer blessings. The Roka symbolizes the beginning of the relationship of the families and has a puja called Ardaas to bring in prosperity. After this, the groomâs family visits the brideâs place with gifts and this custom is called Thaka. Magni or Sagi â The couples get officially engaged and this grand ceremony is held a few months prior to the wedding. The groomâs family feeds the bride with rice and milk and the couple exchange rings to mark the engagement. Shagun and Chunni Chadai â This ceremony shows the acceptance of the bride by the groomâs family. A group of ladies arrives a day before or on the morning of the Sagai to the brideâs house with sweets, jewelry, fruits and other gifts to the bride known as Shagun. The mother-in-law will carry with her some of the jewels which are a part of the family heirloom and help the bride to put it and chunni is placed over the brideâs head. Her face is also covered with a scarf. This is called Chunni Chadana. Sangeet â This wedding ceremony is the most fun-filled part of Punjabi weddings with song, dance, joy, and exuberance and is usually organized by the brideâs family a day before the wedding is a great way for both families to get acquainted with each other. Play one of the peppy songs for brotherâs wedding and hit the dance floor. Mehendi â The Punjab wedding is incomplete without the colors of Mehendi. Henna is applied on the brideâs hands and feet. It is believed that the darker the mehndi turns out the warmer the love the bride is going to be showered by her in-laws. A similar ceremony is also carried out at the groomâs place but usually on a smaller scale. The groom also joins the mood sporting a simple design on the palms.
Wedding RitualsÂ
Jago- The whole family stays awake the previous night to celebrate Jago. The maternal aunt will carry a pot with lit candles on her head and visit the neighboring houses in song and dance. Other ladies will also take turns in carrying the pot while few will try to shake it with a stick. The neighbors will feed them with sweets and delicacies. Gana Bandhana â On the day of the wedding a puja is carried out in the houses of the bride and groom. Both attend the puja in their houses during which the priest will tie a sacred thread around their right wrist. The thread is knotted many times so that it becomes difficult to untie it later on. Chooda Chadana- Chooda is a set of bangles red and ivory in color and kept in multiples of four. The maternal uncle will sit for the havan and along with his wife, he will put the chooda in the brideâs hands. The brideâs head and face are covered during the ceremony because she is supposed to see the Chooda only at the wedding. Other elderly members present will touch the Chooda and bless the bride. Maternal uncle will gift her a Lehenga and other ladies will try Kalire to her bangles. Haldi â This ceremony is to usher in happiness in the brideâs life. The bride is made to sit on a low stool facing four diyas. Married ladies present in the family then applies a paste of turmeric, sandalwood, mustard oil, and rose water on the face and also the hands and feet of the bride. This ceremony is observed on the groomâs side as well. Ghara Gharoli â This ritual is observed in both the brides and groomâs side. Once the Haldi (turmeric) dries, the bride and groom visit the nearby temple in their respective places. There they will bath in holy water and the ritual is called Ghara Gharoli. After that prayer is offered and blessings of the deity taken. They return home for a shower and to get ready for the wedding. Sarbala â A kid is usually chosen to become the Sarbala or the groomâs caretaker and to accompany him to the wedding. Sehrabandi and varna â The groom gets all dressed up. He puts on the sherwani and churidar and attends a small puja where the priest blesses the turban and Sehra. The elder male or brother-in-law ties the turban or Sehra on the groomâs head. Godi Charna â Now the groom starts at the wedding venue on a mare. A tilak is usually put on the mareâs head and the female relatives feed chana dal and water to the mare. The groom sets off with the relatives to the wedding venue accompanied by the band, music, and dance. Agwaani and Milni â The groom reaches the wedding venue with his family and is greeted warmly by the brideâs family. This ritual is called Agwaani and the brideâs mother applies tilak on the groomâs forehead. Next comes the Milni where the relatives from both sides seek out the corresponding ones of the opposite side. Varmala â Both bride and groom are led to the stage and given garlands to exchange. Here again Punjabiâs fill-in fun to the occasion by both sides lifting the bride and groom higher so that it becomes difficult to put the garland over the head. Madhuperk â After Varmala the couple proceeds to the mandap and the groom is given a small bowl of water from which he sprinkles a little on his feet and drinks the remaining. The groom then sips the Madhuperk made of curd, honey, ghee, milk, and some sacred essences. After the groom sips the Madhuperk the wedding rituals will begin. Kanyadaan â This ritual is a sacred one where the parents give away their daughter to the groom. The brideâs father through recitations of mantras requests the groom to take good care of his daughter and the groom, in turn, accepts her hand and promises to keep her happy and treat her with respect. The promise of marriage is done in front of the wedding havan keeping the fire as witness. The groom is given a plate with flour on which fourteen parallel lines are drawn using a flower. Hindu marriage has fourteen vows which are symbolized by these lines. The priest recites the Vedic mantras of each vow and the groom repeats these mantras and simultaneously erases the lines one by one. Phere â In the next stage the dupattas of the couple are knotted together and they take four circles around the sacred fire. When the first three circles are taken the bride moves in front of the groom and for the last circle the groom moves ahead of the bride. Lajahom â Puffed rice is poured by the brideâs brother to her hands. This is then offered by the bride to the fire as a mark of taking the blessings of the fire god. The ritual is done three times. Sindoor Daan â Now the wedding rituals reach its completion where the groom parts the brideâs hair to apply sindoor on her forehead and ties the Mangalsutra. Joota Chuppai â This is yet another fun-filled ritual where the brideâs sister hides the groomâs shoes during the wedding. When the wedding is completed the brideâs side demands a ransom from the groom to have the shoes back. After friendly bargaining, an amount is fixed which the groom pays to get back the shoes. A mention of this ritual brings to mind the nostalgic song from Hum Aapke Hain Kaun â Joote De Do Paise Le Lo â where the hide and seek for the groomâs shoes are shown through the song beautifully. There are also numerous lovely songs for brother wedding dedicated to this occasion. Post wedding rituals  Vidaai or dholi â This is a sad part where the bride is all tearful and takes leave of her family. She expresses her gratitude by throwing rice over her shoulder in the direction of her family. She then goes in the wedding car to her husbandâs car and the procession is called Doli. Paani Bharna â Once the Dholi arrives at the groomâs house the mother welcomes the bride with an aarti and pitcher of water. The bride takes seven circles and the mother-in-law attempts to drink from the pitcher after each circle. The bride, in turn, stops her from drinking and finally gives after the seventh circle. Now she crosses the threshold and enters her home by knocking a pot of rice suing her left foot. Mooh Dikhai â The couple then moves forward to take the family dietyâs blessings. Next, the bride is unveiled for all family members to see. She is seated and her veil is removed. The elders will now shower her with blessings and gift her jewelry and cash. Reception â The groomâs family will throw a lavish party for the new couple. Another get-together and maybe a few songs for brother wedding would be great here. Pag Phera â The bride and her husband now return to her paternal home. They are given a grand lunch and they spent a night there. The next day the bride returns to her in-laws with gifts for them. Sikh wedding traditions Sikh and Punjabi weddings have differences. Though from the same region, Sikh is a different religion following different traditions. Pre-wedding rituals â It begins with Roka and Thaka. The brideâs father visits the groomâs house with gifts and applies a tilak on the groomâs forehead to show his approval. The groomâs parents return the rituals for the bride. Next, the formal engagement ceremony called Kurmai happens at the gurdwara or groomâs house. The priest offers a prayer to commence the ceremony. The groom presents the bride with a ring and the groomâs family presents a steel bangle called Kara to the groom. The brideâs grandfather feeds the groom with dates. The weekend before the Anand Karaj, the family members sit down to read the Guru Granth Sahib in 48 hours to explain to the bride and groom the significance of religion. This function is held separately at both houses. Kirtan, a piece of religious music, is performed at the house as a good omen. The family visits the Gurdwara daily and reads a random page from Guru Granth Sahib and recites the prayers and this ceremony is called Ardas. The family makes a sweet Prasad called Khara Prasad at Gurudwara and distributes this among the attendees after the prayers. A meal called Langar is also served to the attendees. Next comes the Shagan, where the brideâs family sends gifts to the groomâs family. The shagun consists of sweets, coconut, dry fruits, and clothes. After this, the Chuni Chadan takes place where the female relatives of the groom visit the brideâs house with her bridal outfit, jewelry, and makeup kit. The groomâs mother covers the brideâs head with a headscarf or chunni as a sign that the bride is now a part of the groomâs family. These are followed by the cleansing ceremony called Maiya which takes place five days prior to the wedding. Both the bride and groom will have oil applied on their hair and turmeric paste on the body. Karahi Chadana is also observed five days before the wedding. Delicious food is cooked in a large wok in the kitchen and throughout the five days, guests are served from the same wok. Warna is conducted the day before the wedding on both the bride and groom. Currency notes are waved over their heads and the money donated to charity to ward off the evil eye. In the next ritual Gaana, a red thread which is considered as a protection from ill omen is tied to the right wrist of the groom and left wrist of the bride. Next, the sister-in-law of the bride and groom visits brings holy water from nearby Gurudwara in an earthen pot called Gharoli. The bride and groom bathe in this water post their Vatnaa. During the Vatnaa, a special paste of turmeric, mustard, and barley are applied by the married women of the family on the bride and groom accompanied by wedding songs. Two days before the wedding Mehendi is conducted whereby the Henna is applied on the hands and feet of the bride in beautiful designs. The women of the house also try their hand at henna. Next is the Chooda and Kalire ceremony where the brideâs maternal uncle gifts a set of 21 red and white bangles called Chooda which are purified in curd and rosewater. Then the relatives tie the Kalire on her bangles. Wedding rituals - The day of the wedding begins with the Sehra Bandhi where the groom leaves for the brideâs house and the father ties a turban around his head. He is also given a fake sword to carry during the wedding ceremonies. The sister covers the groomâs face by tying the Sehra on his turban. Next is the Soorma and Kalgi where the sister-in-law will apply a black dot on his forehead to keep away the negative energies. The sister then ties a piece of jewelry on the groomâs forehead and blocks his way outside demanding a gift to let him go. The Baarat starts with music and dance to the brideâs house. At the brideâs house, the men welcome the Baarat with Milni or chanting of sacred hymns. Next, the Anand Karaj ceremony is conducted in the Gurudwara prayer hall. The bride and groom sit down facing the Guru Granth Sahib. Any Amritdhari Sikh can perform the marriage. He explains to the couple the importance of marriage and their respective duties. The couple bow before Guru Granth Sahib and the brideâs father places one end of a saffron scarf over the groomâs shoulder and the other part in the brideâs hand. The couple will now take the Laavas. Four Laavas are recited from Guru Garnth Sahib and the couple takes four circumambulations around the Guru Granth Sahib. These are called Pheras. After this raagis sing, hymns of Aanand Sahib and the Khatah Prasad is distributed. The ceremony ends with a grand meal and the Roti which is the brideâs first meal with her husband. Post-wedding rituals â Sada Suhagan takes place where the elders bless the bride to be suhagan always. After this, the Doli and Vidaai of the bride leaving for the groomâs house are held. She is welcomed warmly at the groomâs house. She is fed with sweets and showered with flowers and the neighbors and relatives come to bless the bride. Finally, a grand reception with fun and dance is given to honor the newlyweds.Â
Shagun ceremony in Punjabi wedding
The Shagun ceremony is when the bride and groom get engaged. An ornate chunni, usually a family heirloom, is draped around the girl. The bride is also gifted jewelry and a dot of mehendi is applied to her hand to bring in good luck. The bride and groom exchange rings and the brideâs father will bless the groom and apply tikka on his forehead. After this, the families exchange gift and also feeds sweet to the couple. New Kurta Styles in Weddings 2019
Kurta Design is one of the fundamental styles of traditional Indian wear of men. The kurta is male tunic that is worn over a Pyjjama. It is a long and baggy long shirt over jeans. The Kurtha Pajama can either be full length or short length till the midsection. The full length kurta can be till the lower legs or till the knees. The kurtha style can be either formal or casual relying upon how it is really made. This is ordinarily worn with veshti or long streaming skirt. With a little variety in the kurta or in the Pajama, the Indian clothing can be worn in different manners. A portion of the normal styles are: the customary style, Pathani style kurta and Pyjjama, kurta and Churidhar Pyjaama.
Wedding kurta pajama: The most significant of the wedding is the dress to be worn. Kurta pajama is one of the most supported decisions of dress for men.
